よく使う英語フレーズ 仕方ないよ

先日、英語のレッスン後に先生からメッセージがきました。

通常、レッスン中の会話を録音して、レッスン後に送って貰い復習が出来ます。

でも、先生は、録音を忘れていたらしく音声が送れないとのことでした。

え～。困ると思いつつも。

まあ、仕方ないよねっと返事をしようと思いましたが、何と言う？？？

仕方ないよ

1.That's life (idiomatic) 慣用句
 Bad or disappointing things happen sometimes, and we have to accept them.

悪いことや期待外れなことは時に起こるものであり、それを受け入れなければならないということ。

 2. It can't be helped
 The situation cannot be changed, so we should accept it and move on.

状況を変えることはできないため、それを受け入れて前に進むしかないということ。

3. That's too bad. (sympathetic) 同情を示す表現
 Something unfortunate, disappointing, or unlucky happened.

不運なこと、期待外れなこと、あるいは運の悪いことが起きた際に使います。

なので、今回の録音忘れた。ごめんねと言われた時は

It can't be helped.を使うとのこと。

今日習った表現です

この表現をならったのは、アメリカの大統領選は、バイディンかトランプかどちらかを選ぶのは難しいねっと言う話からです。

"lesser of two evils"

The expression means choosing between two undesirable options. 

2つのうちよりマシな方

この表現は、2つの望ましくない選択肢のどちらかを選ぶことを意味します。

Demolish vs. Collapse:

似た単語について習いました。

Demolish: To deliberately destroy a structure.

Example: "The old building was demolished to make way for a new park."

Collapse: To fall down unintentionally.

Example: "The roof collapsed due to heavy snowfall."

Cause to do: This phrase means to make something happen.

                    Alternatives include "prompt" or "lead to.

 Example: "The heavy rains caused the river to flood."

取り壊す/破壊する：構造物を故意に破壊すること。

例：「古い建物は新しい公園を作るために取り壊された。」

潰れる/崩れる/崩壊する: 意図せず倒れること。

例: 「大雪のため屋根が崩壊した。」

原因: このフレーズは、何かを起こすことを意味します。

代替語として、「促す」または「導く」があります。

例: 「大雨により/が原因で川が氾濫した。」

Vocabulary and Sample Sentences

今日のレッスンは、リスニングをした後に分からない語彙の説明をして貰いました。

少し聞き慣れない語彙があるとついて行けなくなりますが、どの語彙も以前に目にしたことがあるものなので、覚えやすかったです。

• walk away (verb): leave 
  – The store owner wouldn’t drop the price on the old model of iPhone, so I just walked away.
• caring (adjective): kind 
  – My sister is so caring that she let me borrow her new phone when mine broke.
• speck of dust (noun): a very, very small piece of dirt 
  – Be sure to clean off any specks of dust off your camera lens before you take pictures. Otherwise, they won’t turn out well.
• beside the point: not important or relevant 
  – I know my phone is six years old, and the camera is broken on it. That’s beside the point. It still works, so I don’t need to buy a new one.
• self-reliant (adjective): having the ability to take care of oneself, independent 
  – Joseph is very self-reliant. He never asks his parents for financial help because he wants to take care of things on his own.
• entitled (adjective): having the feeling that you deserve something, sometimes without even working for it 
  – My younger brother feels so entitled. He wants my parents to buy him a new computer, but he isn’t willing to pay for part of it. He thinks it’s their job to do everything for him.

– 店主が古いモデルの iPhone を値下げしてくれなかったので、私は立ち去った。
思いやりのある (形容詞): 親切
– 私の姉はとても思いやりがあるので、私の携帯が壊れたときに新しい携帯を貸してくれた。
ほこりの粒 (名詞): ごく小さな汚れ
– 写真を撮る前に、カメラのレンズに付いたほこりを必ず取り除いてください。そうしないと、うまく撮れません。
的外れ: 重要でも関連性もない
– 私の携帯は 6 年前のもので、カメラが壊れていることはわかっています。それは的外れです。まだ使えるので、新しいものを買う必要はありません。
自立した (形容詞): 自分で面倒を見る能力がある、独立している
– ジョセフはとても自立しています。彼は自分で物事をやり遂げたいので、両親に経済的な援助を頼むことはありません。
権利がある（形容詞）：時には努力もせずに、何かを得るに値するという気持ちを持つこと
– 私の弟は権利があるという気持ちが強いです。両親に新しいパソコンを買ってもらいたがっていますが、一部は払いたくないようです。両親が自分のためにすべてをやってくれるのが仕事だと思っているのです

Pakistan power crisis

パキスタン電力危機の記事を読みました。

Level-3を選んだので、馴染みのない語彙が多かったです。

今回は、ruining の発音を何度も練習しました。ru wee ningと読むと言いようです。

 Example sentence: "The storm threatened to ruin our picnic." 

例文: 「嵐が私たちのピクニックを台無しにしそうになった」。

「Persist」には、意見や行動方針をしっかりと続ける、または存在し続けるなど、さまざまな意味があります。Example sentence: "Despite the challenges, she persisted in her efforts to learn a new language."例文: 「困難にもかかわらず、彼女は新しい言語を学ぶ努力を続けました。」

その他、bribe (n)　賄賂

One of the ministers is suspected of accepting bribes.
He was found not guilty of bribing polic.
He received 1 million yen in bribes.

Pakistan power crisis – level 3 - News in Levels

Authorities in Pakistan are cracking down on power theft by disconnecting offenders from the electric grid.

About 30% of electricity is stolen, a problem that has persisted despite past governments’ efforts. People and factory owners often  bribe  corrupt officials to ignore the theft.

Samiullah Khan runs a repair shop in Mingora and he says frequent power outages are ruining his business, which relies 90% on electricity.

These outages last 16 to 18 hours a day, making it difficult to deliver promised services.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held an urgent cabinet meeting to address power theft and improve the outdated transmission infrastructure.

New projects are delayed due to Pakistan’s financial crisis, which forces the country to import costly fossil fuels.

Electricity prices in Pakistan are 45% higher than in many neighboring countries, and the IMF calls for further increases.

High fuel costs make electricity expensive, and temperatures over 50°C make life harder without enough power.

Bulgaria's rose industry

今日のレッスンでは、ブルガリアのローズ産業についての記事について話しました。

ブルガリアローズ有名ですよね。

私は、ブルガリアへ行ってローズについて学んでみたいと思っていました。

私には、以前ブルガリアの友人がいて、ブルガリアのアルファベットなど習ったことがあります。その後、ユーラシア協会でロシア語を1年間学びました。

今は、殆ど覚えていません＞＜

ブルガリアのローズ輸入とかしてみたかったです＾＾

今日のレッスンで、先生からの質問は、ローズの精油もってるの？

その精油をどのように使っているのなどなど質問されました。

ローズの香りとラベンダーの香りの違いなども

私が仕事でローズオイルを使っていた時は、主にフェイス用に使ったりスプレーを作って仕事で気分が落ち込んだときに、スプレーをして気分転換していました。

ローズは、幸せの香りです。幸福感をもたらしてくれます。

ラベンダーは、リラックスの香りです。不調を改善してくれます。

Bulgaria is one of the top producers of fragrant rose oil, used in various products and the cosmetics industry.

Last week, farmers were busy harvesting petals about a month earlier than usual due to climate change, which has brought warmer and more humid springs.

To make one gram of rose oil, more than 1,000 petals must be picked by hand.

Farmers start early because the essential oil content is highest around 7:00 am.

Usually, it takes about three tons of rose flowers to produce one kilogram of rose oil.

This year, conditions were more favorable, resulting in better yields.

The right combination of heat and humidity is crucial for the quality of the petals and oil.

This year’s improved output was due to an unseasonably warm winter and a very warm March. Historians note that roses have been cultivated since the 5th to 3rd Century BC, with the first oil factory opening in 1820.
